See Me is an ongoing proof of concept project, aiming to provide improved access to the public transport network. Leading the development of See Me is Cassie Hames, a legally blind programmer employed by SAGE Automation. As someone who is vision-impaired, Cassie struggles to effectively hail a bus or know which bus is approaching the stop. She is unable to determine the bus number by sight alone and must confirm with the driver each time prior to boarding. Cassie's dream of 15 years has been to improve her public transport experience; she watched and waited for someone else to solve the issue, then decided to solve it not only for herself but for others as well.
See Me also features options to make getting onboard safer, including the request assistance option. Selecting this option signals the driver that the passenger requires more time to board, and the driver may need to approach to be closer to the curb.
Trials are in South Australia on the 98A, 98C, 99A and 99C city loop bus route.
